Report: West Brom eye Alex Mowatt after suggestions he'd be ideal for Sheffield United

West Brom are reportedly keen on taking Alex Mowatt from Barnsley this summer after they snatched Reds manager Valerien Ismael from Oakwell.

That’s according to The Sun on Sunday, who suggest that Mowatt is a target for the Baggies. Interestingly, they also suggest that current Blades defender Kean Bryan is of interest to Ismael.

Albion’s interest in Mowatt is no surprise. The Barnsley man is out of contract this month. He was also key for Ismael last season, as he rediscovered his best form in a central midfield role for the Reds.

Interestingly, reports of Albion’s interest comes just days after we at Sheffield United News suggested Mowatt as an ideal signing.

7 Players Who Had A Euros To Forget

The former Leeds man fits the bill perfectly for the Blades. His presence, ability on the ball, and the fact he is on a free, all fit nicely.

But it appears that West Brom will hold the upper-hand now. Ismael is likely to convince Mowatt to move to the Midlands. And in fairness, if he does, you can’t really blame the player.

Lots of players follow managers they trust. Indeed, if Chris Wilder gets another job, expect interest in some of our players.

Sheffield United News View: Disappointing, but we move on

I’ve already consigned myself to the fact we won’t be signing Mowatt here.

West Brom’s interest would be hard to deal with anyway. But with Ismael in charge, it makes it virtually impossible for us to compete. The only thing potentially putting us in pole is if Mowatt wants to stay in South Yorkshire.

But even then, it would be reliant on Jokanovic actually wanting the Barnsley man onboard. For all our suggestions on here, it’s ultimately down to Slav to decide who is best for the club.

Mowatt would have been a nice to have. However, the club will move on and there’ll no doubt be plenty of names linked anyway in the coming weeks.
