Sheffield United could lose out in their bid to sign Jesse Lingard, with Tottenham said to have now ‘registered interest’ in the Man United man.
Lingard is widely believed to be at the top of Chris Wilder’s January shopping list, with the Blades manager looking to complete a loan deal for the Old Trafford midfielder.
However, ESPN now claim that Spurs have expressed an interest in signing Lingard themselves as a potential Jose Mourinho potentially arises for the England midfield ace.
News of Spurs’ interest is likely to be a blow to Chris Wilder. The Blades boss is anxiously awaiting news of any transfers, after admitting the decisions and negotiations now sat above him.
Reports yesterday surfaced to suggest the Blades boss was confident of landing Lingard. Fresh interest from Spurs and Mourinho, then, will be not be welcomed at all by those at Bramall Lane.
This is going to drag on, maybe time to switch targets?
This has already gone on longer than most would have liked, with differing reports emerging daily about Lingard’s situation.
He’d be ideal, in terms of talent and ability. But there has been question marks over whether he wants to come to Sheffield, while if there’s interest from giants of the game he might be tempted elsewhere.
We’ll need to draw a line under this eventually. We simply cannot get to the end of January and find ourselves let down on this one and scraping the barrel to bring someone in.
