Sheffield United will need to act fast this summer if they wish to sign Dion Sanderson, with Sunderland making the Wolves man a ‘priority’.
That is according to the Northern Echo, who claim the Black Cats will make another loan move for Sanderson should they win promotion.
Sanderson has been one of the standout performers for Sunderland this season, who find themselves well positioned to seal a return to the second tier under Lee Johnson.
The defender is said to be keen to make it at Wolves. However, a move to the Championship might be the next logical step for the 21-year-old.
United have been linked with a move for Sanderson themselves, along with fellow Premier League side, Crystal Palace. But with the Blades yet to have a new manager in place, any summer plans will surely be put on hold for now.
Sanderson a ‘Rolls Royce’ but a wanted man it seems
The Sunderland loanee has clearly impressed in the north-east. Strong, quick across the ground and composed with the ball, Sanderson looks to be all you want in a modern defender.
Lee Johnson has previously called him a ‘Rolls Royce’ of a defender, which is high praise indeed.
The problem United have with Sanderson – as they will with any prospective new signing – is until a new manager is in place it’s hard to sell the club.
From the outside, we look a bit of a mess at the moment and are going down with a terrible season behind us. Of course, we are a huge club with a lot to offer but until that new man is in place, it’s hard to envisage any new signings.
