Sheffield United will have to pay around £10m if they wish to land Fulham midfielder, Tom Cairney, in the summer transfer window.
Reports have suggested in recent days that Cairney could be top of the shopping list for new boss Slavisa Jokanovic. The Fulham star was always likely to be linked, given his important rule in Jokanovic’s Cottagers side.
However, TeamTalk have published an exclusive report today suggesting Fulham have set their asking price. And that price is around £10m.
Cairney is 30 and has three years left on his current deal. He’s also been injured for a while, meaning our thoughts that Cairney is an unlikely signing, appear to have been backed up.
The midfielder was always going to be someone the Blades were linked with. It’s likely that Cairney’s name won’t be the last we hear, either.
Jokanovic has enjoyed spells with Fulham and Watford over in England, while he also has links to Chelsea. Naturally, former players he has managed will be mentioned.
The likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Adelene Guedioura are another two who have been touted in recent weeks. As has current Spurs man, Ryan Sessegnon, who Jokanovic handed a debut to at Fulham.
Sheff Utd News View: Tom Cairney too expensive for Sheffield United, let’s all move on
Let’s just put this one to bed before it even gets off the ground, shall we? Cairney was such an obvious link that it was only a matter of time before he got mentioned.
But as we said before, his arrival seems so unlikely. Money, age, and injury all play their part here. There is no question over his ability, it’s just a big gamble for United to take.
The £10m fee is too much as well. There will be more on the market for us to take a look at. So, let’s park the talk of Cairney, and all move on.
