John Swift could once again be on the Sheffield United radar next summer, following a failed attempt to bring him to Bramall Lane this year.

The Blades were said to be keen on a move for Swift in the summer months, but Reading, according to reports, priced themselves out of a sale by asking for a fee that United were unwilling to match.

However, the Sheffield Star now claims that Chris Wilder will reignite his push for Swift again next summer, especially, if John Lundstram decides to walk away from the club.

The current Blades number seven has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal at Bramall Lane, although it is believed United will keep the offer on the table for as long as possible.

Swift, on the other hand, has endured a torrid season after suffering a serious injury after playing the opening two games of the campaign for Reading. He is yet to return, with no date set to see him back in action for the Royals.

The player we need right now, Swift would be ideal

Obviously, he is injured at the moment but never before have we needed a player in the mould of Swift so much.

United are struggling in midfield at the moment. John Fleck is out and the goals have dried up for Lundstram, meaning  on a creativity aspect at least, the Blades are lacking somewhat.

Swift would have been ideal. He’s played nearly 200 league games in multiple midfield positions. Within those appearances he’s scored just shy of 40 goals, assisting on a further 41. (Per Transfermarkt)

In fact, regardless of if Lundstram goes or not, the signing of Swift is still one that makes sense.
