Report: Sheffield United to battle Ajax in race to sign Altay Bayindir

Sheffield United could face competition from Ajax as they look to land Fenerbahce goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir.

According to a report from Turkish news outlet, Takvim, the Blades are keen on signing 22-year-old stopper Bayindir.

The young ‘keeper has been in fine form since sealing a move to Fenerbahce. Having cost the Turkish giants less than £2m just last summer, Bayindir has gone on to keep five clean sheets this term, conceding just 33 times.

United could be in the market for a new goalkeeper with Dean Henderson set to return to Manchester United. And despite officials at Old Trafford apparently keen on sending Henderson back out on loan, the Blades will need to keep their options open.

However, Ajax are also thought to be keen on landing Bayindir. The European giants are looking for a new goalkeeper themselves, with Andre Onana thought to be on his way out of the club.

Excellent pedigree

Bayindir would come to Bramall Lane with excellent pedigree. Indeed, he has already made 42 appearances over in Turkey and has seen his stock rise considerably in the last six months.

It goes without saying, too, that clubs like Ajax don’t take an interest unless you have a lot of talent in the locker.

United, though, could use their links with Fenerbahce to try and move ahead of Ajax in the race. The Blades have a strong relationship with the Turkish giants thanks in part to Selahattin Baki.

Chris Wilder could well look to tap into that relationship to land Bayindir. Of course, it remains to be seen if Dean Henderson will return. If he does, Wilder could well move on from the Turkish starlet and stick with Henderson, Simon Moore, and Michael Verrips.
