Sheffield United look likely to keep hold of George Baldock for the time being, with Celtic set to sign Aurelio Buta instead.
Reports from Belgian site Walfoot have confirmed that the Bhoys have made a move for Buta, with a deal worth £3m set to be completed shortly.
New Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has been eager to add a new right-back to his squad this summer. United’ Baldock had emerged as a target, according to reports recently. However, Celtic were apparently only willing to pay £5m for Baldock, something we previously discussed.

And with the Bhoys now moving for Buta, any move for Baldock looks increasingly unlikely now. That, of course, is excellent news for Slavisa Jokanovic and the Blades.

Baldock has been an integral figure for United ever since Chris Wilder signed him in back in 2017.
The full-back is expected to play a key role under Slavisa Jokanovic this season as well. Deployed as a wing-back under Wilder, Baldock is equally adept as a standard right-back if needed.
Board deserves credit with Baldock as Celtic give up
This new-found way of rejecting bids and making clubs look elsewhere is refreshing to see for us United fans. No longer the selling club we have historically been, this board seems to be sticking to their guns.
£5m for Baldock was never going to get it done anyway. But it’s nice to see United shunning offers and simply sending a put up or shut up message.
There is, as we know, weeks to go in the transfer window. Sander Berge and Aaron Ramsdale could both still leave. However, it looks like United will get big money should either be sold.
Sometimes you have to give credit where it’s due, and when it comes to George Baldock and Celtic, United’s board deserve some kudos.
