Sheffield United could go head to head with Norwich City to try and sign Cardiff midfielder, Will Vaulks, reports the Daily Mail.
The former Rotherham United man has excelled with the Bluebirds in the last few seasons and has played a pivotal role this season as Mick McCarthy has revived the clubs fortunes.
Vaulks was said to be on the radar of Chris Wilder a few summers back. The midfielder apparently someone Wilder wanted to sign following United’s promotion to the Premier League.
Of course, any follow up interest from United will depend on who takes over from Wilder in the coming months. But the report from the Mail claims Cardiff could accept a bid in the region of £7m for Vaulks, if clubs come calling.
Norwich may well be favourites for Vaulks, however. The Canaries are on course to make it back to the Premier League at the first attempt, giving them the perfect opportunity to beat the Blades to the punch.
Will Vaulks interesting Sheffield United
In terms of all-action midfielders, Vaulks very much ticks a number of boxes United will be looking for in the summer.
We are going to need a replacement for John Lundstram while Sander Berge is also expected to be sold on to the highest bidder.
That leaves a gaping hold in the Blades midfield and Vaulks, with his energy and battling qualities, would slot in nicely. He’s also a good footballer with an eye for goal, having notched four times this term for Cardiff.
At £7m, he’s certainly within budget as well and is someone United could and should probably consider at Championship level.
