Report: Sheffield United keen on Bordeaux striker Josh Maja, formerly of Sunderland

Sheffield United are said to be keen on signing Bordeaux striker, Josh Maja, according to reports from France.

French journalist Clement Carpentier claimed via his Twitter account that both the Blades and Birmingham City are keen on Maja, who moved to France from Sunderland back in January of last year.

It is believed Bordeaux are open to selling Maja, who has only scored twice this season and failed to build on a decent return of eight strikers last term.

However, with Chris Wilder admitting that it’s likely to be two loans only in January and having spent over £20m on Rhian Brewster in October, it seems unlikely Wilder will go after another striker.

Maja shot to prominence at Sunderland as an emerging young striker, where he fired in 15 goals in just 24 games for the Black Cats.

Still only 21, Maja has managed one appearance for Nigeria and could be keen on proving himself back in England if given the chance.

Not what we need at the moment, this seems unlikely

While we have struggled for goals, we have scored three in the last two games and we do have six options at the top of the pitch.

Maja is a good young striker but is another unproven name at Premier League level so it seems unlikely we are going to use any of our limited budget on yet another forward.

A midfielder or two, and a left-footed defender are higher on the agenda at the moment meaning there could well be little in this report.
