Sheffield United have joined Aston Villa among four clubs interested in Chelsea right-back Todd Kane, according to Football Insider.

Both clubs are looking to improve their squads following promotion to the Premier League. Meanwhile, Derby County and recently relegated Fulham are those keen on Kane from the Championship.

Villa need support on the right side of defence after releasing Alan Hutton, Ritchie de Laet and Micah Richards this summer.

The Cottagers also want to bolster their defence, Meanwhile, Derby manager Frank Lampard is an admirer of Kane from their time together at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old is available on a free transfer after being released by the Blues. This is despite the fact they wanted to retain Kane, but missed the deadline to extend his contract.

The defender enjoyed a successful loan spell at Hull City last season. Kane made 41 appearances in all competitions as the Tigers made a later push for the playoffs. He also scored three goals.

The Blades’ interest in Kane suggests they could be preparing for life without George Baldock. Football Insider also reports that Baldock is the subject of a £3m bid from Celtic.

The Hoops are keen to sign a new right-back and boss Neil Lennon is an admirer of the United ace. They believe the South Yorkshire club could be tempted to cash in on Baldock as he approaches the final year of his current deal.

The Blades would prefer to keep the 26-year-old and want to offer him a new contract, but can’t until the ongoing ownership dispute is resolved. Baldock is also happy at Bramall Lane and is ready to test himself in England’s top flight.

Yet reports linking them with Kane hints that United are looking at alternatives. Especially as the Chelsea man has also played wide midfield, so could be well suited to the wing-back role in Chris Wilder’s system.
