Sheffield United are reportedly interested in signing Harvey Elliott from Liverpool this summer, according to reports from The Sun.
The print edition of the newspaper (25/07, p62) claims that United manager Slavisa Jokanovic has his eye on Elliott. The Serbian knows the young midfielder well from their time at Fulham together.
Elliott is back with Liverpool and could well be part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans, having already featured in pre-season. He impressed with Blackburn Rovers last term, but is still just 18. That could well mean another loan for Elliott, with Jokanovic on the prowl.
The Blades are looking to inject some creativity into the ranks this summer from midfield. John Lundstram has left, while Sander Berge is also being tipped to move on.
Elliott knocked in seven goals last season, with another 11 assists on top.
Jurgen Klopp is already a big fan of the midfielder. The German coach has already praised him on more than one occasion.
“He is an exceptional talent, absolutely, and he’s a nice kid as well,” Klopp has said previously of Elliott.
The real deal
Elliott’s age means he still has a long way to go in the game. But his performances for Blackburn in the Championship have shown everyone what he is all about already.
That experience will be invaluable, and will allow him to build on the raw talent he already possesses. Indeed, Jamie Redknapp spotted it a while back, commenting on Elliott’s natural ability.
“Harvey Elliott – we were watching him and he’s 16 years of age. From minute one he was trying to get on the ball. He looked the real deal,” Redknapp said 2019.
“There were a couple of the things he did but there was one or two passes – and I don’t know why – some left footers are gifted with.”
With his ability to play wide or as a number ten, there’s certainly a big case for United needing someone like Elliott.
If this is a deal Jokanovic can pursue and get over the line, then Blades fans can look forward to quite the player.
