The Sheffield Star claims the Blades will potentially press ahead with moves for either Ben Davies or Diego Rico in January, as Chris Wilder looks to bring a replacement in for Jack O’Connell.
The United boss decided against bringing someone in during the final week of the EFL window earlier in the month. However, Terence Kongolo, who eventually signed for Fulham, was said to have failed a medical and Wilder went with what we currently have.

Enda Stevens has slotted in at left centre-back in the last two games, while Jack Robinson is also an option, as is Ethan Ampadu.
However, the Star claims Wilder may well continue to look at signing one of Rico or Davies when January rolls around. Bournemouth man Rico has shifted from a more natural left-back role into a back three like O’Connell plays in, while Preston’s Davies has been a standout Championship defender for a few years now.

Celtic are also said to be keen on signing Davies. But the Blades may hope the promise and chance of playing Premier League football may lure the Preston man to Bramall Lane.
Evidence suggests we need to act here
Given we have conceded headers at the back post where O’Connell would be against Leeds and Liverpool, the basic evidence would suggest we do need to bring someone in.
Stevens did well at Liverpool but then we miss his energy and abilities down the left. Jack Robinson, for all his efforts, isn’t the attacking threat Wilder likes to see from the role.
Davies would be more in the mold of Robinson, while Rico would be a more attacking option given his instincts as a left-back.
Regardless of who Wilder does go, it is important the board does back him here and we get someone in who can slot in pretty quickly into a back three.
