Sheffield United are reportedly among the Premier League clubs keeping an eye on former Liverpool and England striker, Daniel Sturridge.
The Daily Mail claims the Blades have discussed the possibility of bringing Sturridge to Bramall Lane, who is a free-agent after leaving Turkish side, Trabzonspor.
The 31-year-old has apparently been keeping in shape with the help of his local football team and has enlisted the help of a personal trainer in the hope of landing a PL return.
Capped 26 times by England (scoring 8 goals), Sturridge made 16 appearances for Trabzonspor, scoring seven goals. However, he is a now available on a free, with the Blades and Aston Villa said to be keen on the forward.
Sturridge has had spells with Man City, Chelsea, and Liverpool in the top-flight and brings a wealth of experience with him should he sign. He has had injury troubles but, if fit, is a proven goal-getter at this level.
Wilder seems to be casting his net but is Sturridge a risk too far?
Last summer’s risky signing was Ravel Morrison and it didn’t work out at all. This summer’s appeared to be Oliver Burke but the emergence of Sturridge’s name as a potential signing is interesting.
He was simply brilliant during the year Liverpool nearly won the title under Brendan Rodgers. However, since then, he’s struggled to get going, although he did show signs in Turkey last season.
As the hunt goes on, it’s clear Chris Wilder has identified a number of targets. It could be, then, that Wilder sees value in giving Sturridge a chance given he is a free transfer.
It’s certainly one to keep an eye on as the window edges towards its end.
