Sheffield United face a huge battle if they wish to sign Ryan Gauld this summer, with as many as 30 clubs interested in the Scot.
Gauld has been impressive this season with Farense, although he couldn’t quite do enough to ensure they stayed in the Portuguese top flight.
The 25-year-old plays predominantly as an attacking midfielder. He’s scored 9 goals this season and laid on a further 7. That form has attracted a number of admires, including United.
TeamTalk reported a few weeks back that the Blades were keeping tabs on Gauld’s situation. The likes of Inter Miami are also watching on, while reports this weekend suggest Southampton are also keen.

But even further than those few teams, STV reporter, Chris Harvey, claimed in midweek that Gauld has around 30 offers on the table.
Clearly, then, Gauld is a wanted man.

Given United’s need for some creative spark in midfield, it’s good to see us at least being linked with these sorts of players.
Gauld was once lauded as a ‘mini-Messi’ when he initially made the breakthrough in Scotland. And while he might not have reached his full potential, he has impressed in the last 12 months.
A move away from Farense is inevitable really. Especially now they’ve been relegated.
However, it’s clear there is a lot of competition for Gauld. And that could be a problem for United, given our own relegation troubles.
You get the impression this one might be a case of getting in there early to make your stance known to Gauld. Otherwise, it could end up dragging on well into the summer.
