Another day, and another Sander Berge rumour to contend with, this time from the Italian press, who claim Napoli could make their move soon.
Gazzetta dello Sport make the claim in their print edition today, suggesting once again that Napoli fancy Berge this summer.
Their report suggests that their manager, Luciano Spaletti, has given his ‘approval’ to sign Berge this summer. Likewise, their Sporting Director, Cristiano Giuntoli, is also an admirer of the Norwegian star.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with Berge this summer. The Gunners are said to have made a bid in the region of £17m already. Of course, United swiftly rejected that offer in an instant.
Aston Villa are also said to be keen on Berge. However, as reported widely in local media, there has been no official bid from anywhere for the United star as yet.
And when it comes to Napoli, Blades fans shouldn’t be getting too worried just yet.
Why Napoli bid for Sander Berge is bordering on laughable
For whatever reason, the Italian press seem to be running with the fact Berge could be available for £12m. Where they are getting this figure from, is unknown to us and most in the local area.
There is simply no way Sheffield United are selling Berge for £12m. Sources suggest that the Blades board are insisting on the £35m clause being met.
In addition to that, Stephen Bettis has already explained that the club don’t need to sell. Players will only move on if bids come in which are simply too good to turn down. £12m for Berge, is not one of those bids!
Napoli are a massive club, of course. They have a rich history, passionate fans, and the lure of moving to the place where Diego Maradona transformed a full city is tempting.
But at £12m, Sander might as well close the Wikipedia page on Naples.
