Reported Sheffield United target, Matty Longstaff will sign a new deal with Newcastle United, putting an end to any speculation over his future.
The youngster has been continually linked with a move away from the northeast after failing to agree on new terms, despite talks being ongoing for a number of months.
Indeed, the Blades were credited with an interest in the midfielder just a week or two ago, with the Daily Mail claiming Chris Wilder was among those managers keeping an eye.
However, Sky Sports now claims that Longstaff has indeed settled on a new deal with the Magpies and will sign that in the coming days, all but ending speculation over his future.
Longstaff had become a key squad figure under Steve Bruce last season after bursting into the first-team picture at St James’ Park. And it looks like Newcastle fans will get to see plenty more of their man.
This was never really one to get excited about anyway – Our View
We get linked with a number of players every summer and some are easier to buy into than others. In the case of Longstaff, it always appeared it was never going to gather pace.
Newcastle can offer more money, for a start, while he also had interest from big clubs in Italy.
It made sense for us to be linked given we are looking for a midfield player to strengthen the ranks but Longstaff was never, realistically, going to be the answer.
Wilder will move on. He’ll have others in mind who are far more feasible targets.
