Claims that Mason Holgate is one of the players on the January wishlist for Chris Wilder appear to have some truth in them.
It was claimed earlier in the week that Holgate was interesting a number of clubs. Despite playing the last nine games for Everton, Holgate is reportedly wanted by the Blades and Newcastle, amongst others.
At the time, a £14m fee seemingly put some Sheffield United fans off. However, since that initial rumour, the Sheffield Star has moved to confirm that Holgate is indeed on Wilder’s shopping list.
Furthermore, it is claimed that Wilder sees Holgate as someone who could potentially join on loan. That would be instead of the big-money fee initially mentioned.
The Blades boss is determined to make use of the January window. With United seventh in the Premier League table, Wilder is keen to improve his squad further.
What might Mason Holgate bring to the table for Sheffield United?
We have already covered this week what Holgate might bring. That piece can be found, here.
However, away from the analysis on Holgate and his abilities, the focus from Chris Wilder seems to be on making sure his squad do not hit a standstill.
No newly-promoted club has remained unbeaten away from home in the PL. United are currently on an eight-game unbeaten away run in the top-flight. Wins at Everton and Norwich have complimented impressive draws at the likes of Spurs, Wolves, and West Ham.
This Sheffield United squad are on course for something special. Unfortunately, for some players in the current squad, it means the end of their journey with the club.
The likes of Kieron Freeman, Leon Clarke, and Richard Stearman could all leave the club in January.
Chris Wilder is determined to keep building at Bramall Lane, therefore, adding players like Mason Holgate in January would be the ideal move.
