Newly-promoted Leeds United want to sign Brentford striker, Ollie Watkins, with the Bees forward among the names being considered by Marcelo Bielsa this summer.
The Daily Mail claims that Watkins is one of a number of targets the Whites have identified ahead of a summer recruitment drive to improve the squad at Elland Road.
Watkins has rattled in 26 goals this season in another impressive campaign for Thomas Frank’s men. However, his future would appear to be on the line in the upcoming playoff final, with the striker expected to go if Brentford doesn’t win out against Fulham.
The Blades, on the other hand, are long-term admirers of Watkins having reportedly readied a bid last summer following their own promotion.
Watkins, too, is hot property with a lot of Unitedites. A quick scan of social media will tell you that the striker would be more than welcome at Bramall Lane if a deal could be struck.
Watkins is the ideal signing but Leeds now pose a problem – Our View
Leeds are going to be working on a similar budget to the Blades barring some of the big contracts they pay, so it’s little surprise to see them in for Watkins.
The problem for United is that it just puts more and clubs in their way of key targets.
However, Chris Wilder won’t worry about other clubs. If he wants the Brentford man he’ll no doubt make it known the board that he is the man.
And in fairness, if United could land anyone this summer, then Watkins ticks literally every box in what the club are looking for at the top end of the pitch.
