Sheffield United defender, Kean Bryan, will reportedly leave the club in the summer despite being in line for a new deal under Chris Wilder.
The former Manchester City defender has recently staked his claim in the first XI. A number of good performances have left fans impressed, although a dismal showing at Leicester at the weekend was a bit of an eye opener.
But despite Wilder previously claiming he was ‘delighted’ for Bryan to be taking his chance, the Sun (14/03, p59), reported this weekend that Bryan is indeed expected to leave.
As it stands, it’s unclear if that is due to the club not offering him a new deal, or whether Bryan has something else lined up.
Bryan has stepped into the fold for United in recent weeks to try and help the nightmare situation at left centre-back. In fairness to him, prior to the hammering at Leicester, he had done ok. His goal at Old Trafford a particular highlight for the former City man.
Kean Bryan to leave Sheffield United
In all honesty, and this is no disrespect to Bryan at all, but out of all the players who might leave this is probably one fans wouldn’t be too fussed about.
Sure, he’s done ok in recent weeks and might have even earnt a new deal under Wilder. But a few good weeks in a couple of years is hardly anything amazing, so if he does move on, it’s not the end of the world.
He’d probably be a decent squad player in the Championship. We would be amazed if he has another Premier League contract lined up.
Stranger things have happened, but unless Bryan does have something lined up elsewhere, then staying at Bramall Lane might be his best chance of regular first-team football.
