Sheffield United Head of Academy, Jack Lester, is apparently on a list of candidates being considered by the FA for the England under-21 job.
The news comes from TeamTalk, who claim Lester, along with Jody Morris, Jason Euell, and Steve Cooper, are among the names being considered by those in charge in the England set up.
Current boss Aidy Boothroyd is looking more and more likely to see his time with the Young Lions come to an end. It comes in the midst of a 2-1 win over Croatia yesterday which wasn’t enough to see England progress in the Euros.
Calls have been growing for Boothroyd to leave for some time now and it looks like the writing is on the wall for the former Watford boss.
United Academy guru Lester is highly-regarded in the game for his work with young players. Currently overseeing proceedings at Shirecliffe, the Blades are on the brink of seeing an impressive batch of youngsters make an impact on the first-team.
Jack Lester to become England under-21 manager?
This would be quite the recognition for Lester, who seems to be going about his work at Bramall Lane behind the scenes with minimal fuss.
Lester moved to United as part of an overhaul by Chris Wilder, replacing long-term United coach Travis Binnion in the academy set up.
Nobody would begrudge him a move to England. However, for United, it would represent another bitter blow in a few weeks which has seen the management team dismantled a bit.
