Report: Dozy Mmobuosi had input in keeping Berge and Ndiaye on deadline day

Sheffield United appear to be heading for a takeover, with Dozy Mmobuosi said to be close to taking over the reins from Prince Abdullah.

A £90m deal is said to be in place for Mmobuosi to take over the club. And the Daily Mail claims that the prospective new owner has already piled in a hefty chunk of cash already.

Interestingly, within that same report from The Mail, there is a line on Mmobousi’s influence in the club’s deadline day dealings. The Blades managed to keep hold of both Iliman Ndiaye and Sander Berge. At the time, reports claimed Prince Abdullah had decided to not entertain any offers for the pair.

However, it seems there might have been some outside influence there. The Mail reports how Mmobuosi himself had told the club not to sell Berge or Ndiaye. The Nigerian businessman, clearly, keen to see the club’s two top assets remain in Sheffield until at least the summer.

The club are now awaiting full ratification from the EFL over the Mmobuosi takeover. The entrepreneur is believed to own businesses valued at more than £6bn.

Sheffield United News View: Mmobuosi already showing commitment to the Blades

There’s a long way to go in this process, as we know. But it does very much seem like United will have new owners shortly and thus far, things are looking positive.

Injections of cash, instructions on star players, and a clear willing to show he has funds to put into the club, Mmobuosi’s first impressions are good.

Keeping Berge and Ndiaye on deadline day was absolutely vital. It more than likely means United will now win promotion back to the PL and the riches that come with it. Whether or not the pair sign new deals, remains to be seen.

But for now, at least, it seems things are on the up for Sheffield United Football Club.
