A report from the Sheffield Star has detailed why Sheffield United have yet to land young Wigan striker, Kyle Joseph.
United are said to be among a host of clubs chasing Joseph, with the Daily Mail claiming the Blades, Celtic, Spurs, and Rangers are all keen.
Joseph has impressed at Wigan this season. He has four goals in nine starts for the Latics and scored an impressive hat-trick against Burton Albion.
He is the latest in a long line of young players to emerge from the Lancashire club in recent seasons. Joe Gelhardt signed for Leeds after impressing, while Fulham landed Antonee Robinson ahead of United in the summer.
And it is that deal for Robinson which appears to have scuppered the Blades’ initial chances of landing Joseph.
As per the report from the Star, although the deal for Robinson wasn’t going to directly decide if Joseph moved on as well, it is claimed it had an impact.
United are said to have been confident of wrapping up deals for both but Robinson’s change of heart to join Fulham apparently put a spanner in the works.
The report claims that the deal was so ‘intertwined’ that negotiations over Joseph became ‘impossible’ once Robinson moved to London.
It remains to be seen if United will make a move again this January, with Chris Wilder consistently claiming he’ll only be looking to use his two loan slots to try and beef up his squad.
