Derby County are the latest club to be linked with a move for Sheffield United striker, Billy Sharp.
The experienced forward has been out of favour at Bramall Lane this season. He’s made just the one start and scored just a single time, on the opening day of the season at Bournemouth.
And according to respected journalist Alan Nixon, the Rams are now making a big push to sign Sharp. Phillip Cocu’s men are enduring a miserable time of things in the Championship this season.
Despite signing Wayne Rooney, they sit way down in 17th place in the table. They are some eight points off the top six now, although have a ten-point cushion to the bottom three.
Sheffield United boss, Chris Wilder, has previously said he doesn’t want Sharp to leave. However, he has also said that if Sharp does indeed want to leave, he will help his captain pursue a deal.
The likes of Leeds, Sunderland, and Celtic have all been linked with a move for the Blades striker this January.
Sharp has been integral for Chris Wilder’s men in the last three seasons. He scored 30 goals in League One before firing in 23 last season as the Blades finished second in the Championship.
A tempting move for Billy Sharp
While it seems the likes of Leeds and Sunderland don’t sit high on Sharp’s agenda, a move to Derby could be tempting.
Yes, the Rams aren’t doing too well but Phillip Cocu is an interesting manager with different methods. Furthermore, the chance to play alongside Wayne Rooney could be something that tempts Sharp away from Bramall Lane.
Of course, if Sharp does want to stay then Wilder has already said he’s welcome in his squad.
As the January window progresses, it will certainly be interesting to see how Sharp sees his immediate future with the Blades.
