Report: Blades to battle Dortmund and Newcastle for Emmanuel Dennis

Sheffield United will have to see off the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United if they want to sign Nigerian striker, Emmanuel Dennis.

According to a report from the Belgian news outlet, HLN, the German giants have now joined the race for the 22-year-old. Dennis currently plays his football with Club Brugge and has scored five times this season.

Dennis is a full Nigerian international having won a handful of caps in the last 12 months. During that time, he has built a reputation in Belgium as one of the most exciting strikers in the Jupiler League.

However, any move would require Dortmund or the Blades to part with a hefty sum. Indeed, the report claims Brugge are seeking in excess of £20m for the forward.

United have already raided the Belgian league in the last few weeks. Sander Berge joined from Genk for a club-record £22m fee.

Dennis moved to Brugge from Ukrainian outfit, Zorya Luhansk back in 2017. He’s since scored 27 times in 102 appearances across all competitions for the Belgian outfit.

Another day, another name linked

Even though the transfer window is over, Sheffield United will continue to be linked with new players.

Their march towards potential European football, plus the fact players are seemingly willing to join the club, makes them an attractive proposition for players looking for Premier League football.

Obviously, it remains to be seen if the club’s interest in Dennis is concrete. There were rumours in the summer of a £10m bid from United. If that was the case, then this interest could well remain.

The Blades have made a habit of watching their targets over long periods. Next season will no doubt see the arrival of new strikers with Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick into their 30s now.

Dennis, then, might well just be another ace up Chris Wilder’s sleeve.
