With January just around the corner, the rumour mill is already spinning into overdrive when it comes to Sheffield United’s targets.
Chris Wilder has already said he wants to act early. A new defender, plus someone who can bring goals from midfield, both said to be high on the Blades manager’s agenda.
One name who has come to the fore in recent weeks is that of Manchester United midfielder, Jesse Lingard. Reports from Lancashire claim that the Blades have enquired about Lingard, who is set to return to action this weekend if selected.
And to add fuel to the fire, The Athletic’s Richard Sutcliffe has confirmed in his piece today that Chris Wilder has indeed spoken to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about taking Lingard.

Of course, Lingard’s £100k-a-week wages would need to be worked out, but in a time of crisis, it could well be a few million pounds worth paying out for United.
With 24 caps for England over 200 games for Man United, there is little doubting the fact that Lingard is as good a midfielder as we are likely to land on this January.
It worked with Henderson, hopefully Solskjaer takes that into consideration
Despite their mini spat on the touchline last week, Wilder and Solskjaer are known to have quite a good relationship.
Last year’s loan spell for Dean Henderson cemented that relationship and as Blades fans, we can only hope that the Man United boss feels Wilder will get Lingard going like he did ‘Hendo’.
