Report: Atalanta added to clubs keen on Emmanuel Dennis, Blades were linked with bid back in May

Sheffield United face a fight on their hands to sign Club Brugge striker, Emmanuel Dennis, with Atalanta the latest club to join the hunt for the speedy forward.

Dennis is a man in-demand this summer following an impressive campaign with the Belgian outfit. Indeed, back in May, the Blades were reportedly given ‘the green light’ to make a bid for the 22-year-old.

However, a report from the Italian outlet, GianlucaDiMarzio, claims that Atalanta has now joined the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal as genuine contenders for the Nigerian star.

The Italian side has been one of the standout and surprise packages in the Champions League this season.

Despite just the nine goals this season, Dennis has caught the eye with his ability to play across all three attacking positions for Brugge. Furthermore, he scored an impressive brace at the Bernabeu, as Brugge managed a brilliant 2-2 draw with the Spanish giants.

United need pace up top but once again this feels like a bidding war we won’t win – Our View

Most Blades fans would agree that we lack a bit of speed and genuine pace in key areas. Especially, at the top of the pitch.

Lys Mousset is the man we have with those attributes at the moment. But with concerns over his fitness and mindset from some, it remains to be seen whether he will be the long-term solution.

Dennis, then, could prove to be a shrewd acquisition. However, once again, other clubs are in the mix and the majority of those clubs will pay some pretty hefty wages.

It’s unlikely the Blades will follow this one up. For £22m, plus a good contract, it’s hard to see Chris Wilder using such a chunk of his budget to bring the Nigerian to Bramall Lane.
