Sheffield United will once again face competition from Aston Villa in the transfer market it seems, with Aston Villa apparently keen on signing Rhian Brewster.
According to the Sun, Villa have now entered the race for Brewster after missing out on both Callum Wilson and Ollie Watkins and could be willing to pay £20m for the Liverpool starlet.
The news will come as a bitter blow to Chris Wilder in what is set to be a good week for the club. A number of new faces, including Jayden Bogle and Oliver Burke, are expected to be announced in the coming days.
However, Brewster has been a long-term target for the Blades over the summer and it was believed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp saw Bramall Lane as a potential destination for his man in a loan move.
But Villa appears willing to spoil the party for United once again, just as they did when it came to Matty Cash.
A fee in the region of £20m is being touted by the reports today, with Villa seemingly desperate to land a new striker before the season begins this weekend.
Villa again, no surprises and we’ll move on if we need to – Our View
At the end of the day, United are going to be in similar markets to Villa for players. We are similar sized clubs and while they have the bigger budget, the chances are we’ll be competing for similar positions this season.
Brewster would be a superb addition for us but if Villa is willing to stump up £20m, something I doubt we are, then it might be one that we have to move on from.
With four new players expected in the coming days, including Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu, we can be happy with our business regardless of if Brewster moves to Villa or not.
