Arsenal are now eyeing up a move for Sheffield United goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, according to a report from the Sun.
The Blades stopper enjoyed an outstanding second half of the Premier League season, despite struggling early doors. He has since been called into the England squad in place of Dean Henderson, capping off a remarkable rise.
Ramsdale’s form, though, is attracting admiring glances. The likes of Spurs and Wolves have been linked. And now Arsenal, who are looking to replacen Bernd Leno, want in on the action.
The Sun claim United want around £20m for Ramsdale. That would represent their money back and a bit more for the 23-year-old.
However, the Blades are also said to be keen on keeping hold of their number one stopper. Wes Foderingham remains on the books, but Ramsdale’s form has enhanced his reputation among Unitedites.
For Arsenal, it’s the second Sheffield United player who is of interest to them this summer. Sander Berge is high on their list apparently. The Norwegian is said to have a £35m release clause in his Blades contract.
Sheffield United News View: Arsenal for Ramsdale unsurprising but let’s hold out for more money
Surely Rambo getting in the England squad has increased his value? That £20m figure is just above the £18m United paid initially.
If we do sell, it needs to be for more money. We can’t be letting our best players go on the cheap. Otherwise, our entire plan could be skewed.
We accept that some players may go. But we need to be getting the right amount of cash in to enable Jokanovic to re-invest.
Arsenal, too, aren’t exactly a glamour destination anymore. They’ve struggled for years now and Mikel Arteta is overseeing a huge period of transition in London. Ramsdale, then, will have to think carefully if a bid does come his way.
