Garth Crooks finally appears to get Sheffield United following their Premier League win over Burnley.
“I’ve got to say this is the third game I’ve seen Sheffield United. They’re going to struggle.
“They lack potency upfront and quite frankly, I think their style of football is quite basic for the Premier League.”
On the day that Crooks made those comments United came back from 2-0 down to draw at Chelsea. They have since picked up a further 11 points to currently sit sixth in the table.
Their latest result – a 3-0 victory over the Clarets – was perhaps their most complete performance yet. And it seems even Crooks is having to reconsider his position.
How Sheffield United win over Burnley has changed his mind
John Lundstram scored twice and John Fleck added a third as Chris Wilder’s men dominated at Bramall Lane. The passing and movement for Lundstram’s second goal in particular proved they are anything but basic.
Unsurprisingly the midfielder was included in Crooks’ team of the week; which also included plenty of praise for the Blades.
“This was an impressive performance by Sheffield United,” wrote Crooks. “The Blades seemed to cut through Burnley like a knife through butter.
“While it was the performance of John Lundstram that stood out, I could have selected any number of United players on this performance.
“I don’t know if actor Sean Bean still gets time to go and watch his cherished United, but if he does he must be loving this.”
The reference to Sean Bean is utter waffle and while Crooks says he could have selected a number of players, Lundstram is the only one included.
However, progress is always good – even if it is a little slow.
