Sheffield United look set to miss out on Preston North End’s Ben Davies, according to latest reports.
Sky claimed earlier in the week that the Blades were keen on reigniting their summer interest in Davies, who is out of contract this summer.
However, Lancs Live now claim that there has been no contact between the clubs and that Davies would prefer to look elsewhere and has little interest in a move to Bramall Lane.
That would, seemingly, put Celtic in pole position. The Scottish champions have been linked with Davies since the summer and could well sign him on a pre-contract in January.

United would be unlikely to move for Davies as things stand anyway. Blades boss Chris Wilder admitted it would be loans only in January, which, essentially, rules out a move for the Preston man.
We move on and quickly, as Wilder says
The Blades boss said yesterday that we can’t afford to wait around and hang on for players in January so it looks like this one is dead in the water.
Davies would have been a solid if unspectacular signing who could have filled in for Jack O’Connell.
The issue for Davies is he knows he’d have been out of the team once O’Connell returned, which has probably influenced his thinking.
Nevertheless, United and Wilder will move on in pursuit of other targets.
