Ollie Watkins has discussed his future at Brentford amid speculation Sheffield United are interested in him.

The Sheffield Star reports that the Blades are monitoring Watkins ahead of a potential bid in the January transfer window.

Manager Chris Wilder is a long-term admirer of the 23-year-old – who has been in excellent form this season. Watkins has scored 12 Championship goals already during the 2019/20 campaign.

Wilder actually considered making a move for the forward earlier in 2019, but in the end that didn’t materialise. Yet the 52-year-old still has his eye on Watkins; even if defence and midfield are being prioritised for strengthening in January.

If another Premier League club comes in for the attacker then United are likely to compete with them. The Sun previously reported they were prepared to spend around £15m on Watkins.

Watkins only signed a new contract at Griffin Park in August, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

He is also clearly relishing his new role as a central striker. Watkins moved across from the wing this term following the departure of Neal Maupay to Brighton and Hove Albion.

That has lead to his fine scoring performances and clearly he is enjoying life with the Bees.

“To be honest, I’m really happy here,” Watkins told the Sky Sports EFL Podcast.

“This is the best chance this year of doing something really special.

“I’m really happy, I’m enjoying it, I’m scoring. There’s a good team connection here and I’m loving it and am happy here.”

However, Watkins has admitted that he had his head turned when there was previous interest in him from the top flight. According to West London Sport, Crystal Palace wanted to sign him but couldn’t agree a deal.

Therefore a switch to Bramall Lane could still prove tempting for Watkins.
