Former Sheffield United and Spurs midfielder, Michael Brown, has picked out David McGoldrick as the key man for the Blades ahead of this evening.
McGoldrick has scored eight times in all competitions this season to put to bed the murmurings of last season that he wasn’t cut out for the top level.
As well as those goals, McGoldrick has been a near constant in the team. Indeed, it’s almost become a case of McGoldrick and who, when it comes to United’s front two.
And former Blades hero Brown has told the official Spurs website that McGoldrick is the danger man for United.
“That’s a tricky one this season because the team has had so many injuries and they’ve lacked that consistency. I’ll go with David McGoldrick,” Brown responded when asked who was United’s key man.
“Ipswich Town let him go at the end of his contract in 2017/18, Sheffield United took him on trial and that tells you the story of how far he’s come. He’s scoring goals in the Premier League, seven this season (in 30 games), scored the winner last time out against Brighton and he’s been a real plus point in a difficult campaign.”
McGoldrick was influential in the corresponding fixture at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last term. In fact, he could and possibly should have had a goal that day, was it not for VAR and John Lundstram’s big toe.
David McGoldrick is key for United against Spurs, Brown is spot on
It’s been pretty slim pickings at time this season but Brown has got it spot on here in terms of United’s danger man.
McGoldrick is one of the few this season who can really hold their heads high. He’s probably nailed on to win the player of the year award, with his goals and performances being the standout in this Blades squad.
For next season, McGoldrick will be key. But he’ll also be hoping to replicate his showing at Spurs from last year. If he can do that, then United might just have the slimmest of chances of landing a good result.
