Liverpool should have Sadio Mane available for Sheffield United clash

Liverpool have been handed a major boost to their squad selection for this weekend’s clash with Sheffield United, with Sadio Mane set to overcome an injury problem.

Mane left the field last night as Liverpool won 1-0 in Amsterdam against Ajax. He immediately put an ice pack on his injury, leaving plenty of Reds fans worried ahead of the weekend.

With Virgil van Dijk and Alisson already missing, Liverpool can ill-afford to see any more of their big names go down in the coming weeks. However, Jurgen Klopp has moved to allay any fears Liverpool supporters have, by seemingly hinting that Mane will be ok for the clash with the Blades.

“Sadio has still for a few days had a dead leg.He deals with it in that area, that’s the only thing. It is still painful but it’s not a problem. When he doesn’t play, he puts ice on it. That’s it”, Klopp said. (Liverpool Echo)

It means that Klopp should have his usual front-three to select from this weekend, although Bobby Firmino has yet to get off the mark and there are rumblings among some Liverpool fans about his selection.

For Blades boss Chris Wilder, it will make little difference. United will have planned all week in the knowledge that the big guns will be out for Liverpool. All this does is confirm that suspicion.

Just go for it, Blades

United have nothing to lose in this game at Anfield no matter who plays for Liverpool. Our season has been a nightmare already so we might as well go there with nothing to lose.

Aston Villa showed Liverpool can be got at so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Wilder get United well up for this one and looking to make a fast start.

If we can nick a goal, then it might just make things interesting. As they always say, you just never know in football!
