Liverpool could be without Thiago and Joel Matip for Sheffield United clash

Liverpool may hand Sheffield United a further boost ahead of this weekend’s clash at Anfield as injuries continue to ravage the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp is already without Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker for the visit of the Blades. The big Dutch defender will miss most of the season, while Alisson is not expected back until at least November.

However, things could be even worse for Liverpool this weekend, with both Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara now also listed as doubtful for the clash with the Blades. The pair have missed training ahead of the Reds’ trip to Ajax this week in the Champions League.

Their absence would offer a minor boost for Sheffield United and boss, Chris Wilder. The Blades are ravaged by injuries themselves, with Jack O’Connell and John Fleck two of the more notible absentees.

Liverpool, on the other hand, do have quality to step in if needed. Thiago missing would likely mean that Gini Wijnaldum comes back in, while Fabinho can step into the fold at centre-half if needed alongisde Joe Gomez.

Never a better time to attack them

It might seem like football suicide but there’s probably never a better time for United to travel to Anfield.

Van Dijk and Alisson are massive losses as we all know. But Thiago is world-class, while Matip was just as impressive as Van Dijk at times during last season.

We are expected to lose this one anyway. Aston Villa showed the way in terms of having a go at the Reds, and while they might have that bit more quality, there’s no reason we shouldn’t go all out either.
