Sheffield United ensured they would not be the worst ever Premier League team as David McGoldrick struck to down Aston Villa at Bramall Lane.
McGoldrick started and finished the move which saw him tap home from a miscued George Baldock cross. And for all Villa’s possession once Phil Jagielka was shown a red card, United held firm and resolute to seal a huge three points.
Some of the performances from United players were outstanding. Kean Bryan was excellent, Aaron Ramsdale assured, and Ollie Norwood came roaring back with a number of fine blocks.
But it was the display of McGoldrick that caught the eye on Twitter, as a number of Blades fans were quick to sing his praises.
Now the skipper, the experienced Irish international was a class apart for much of the game, before being replaced in the second half on a yellow card.
Social media was awash with comments singing the praises of the Blades number 17. Here, then, is what some Blades fans had to say about David McGoldrick’s latest display.
David McGoldrick is my new favourite player. Well Done Sheffield United!! #twitterblades #DerbyAreStillTheWorst
