Sheffield United will face a battle with Yorkshire neighbours Leeds if they want to get their hands on Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer this summer.
Archer shone for Middlesbrough on loan last season and is reportedly on Sheffield United’s radar. Paul Heckingbottom is keen to add more firepower to his squad and Archer is one of his targets.
However, it won’t be easy getting a deal done for Archer.
Leeds and more interested in Archer
According to journalist Ben Jacobs – speaking for Give Me Sport – Leeds are among a cluster of clubs who will look to sign Archer before the window ends.
“With Archer, what’s interesting is that he’s been made for sale now. So there is an opportunity to do that deal. He’s had a couple of good loan spells in the Championship including with Middlesbrough and now, Aston Villa are willing to let him go,” Jacobs said.
“I think that he put himself in the shop window with I believe, a couple of goals and an assist at the under 21 Euros for England. He also scored plenty of goals he got into double figures for Middlesbrough last season and I think that was only in about 20-odd appearances and he added several assists on top of that.
“So that can be one to watch because Aston Villa are now prepared to sell him. Leeds are one of the clubs no doubt Middlesbrough are another. So I would expect movement on Archer between now and the end of the window.”

With Chuba Akpom off to Ajax, it’s now imperative Sheffield United get another forward in the building before the weekend.
Cameron Archer was ‘brilliant‘ at both Preston and Middlesbrough and the logical next step is for him to make a move to a Premier League club.
The fee might be a decent one for United to pay but we have money from the Ndiaye and Berge sales and a move for Archer would excite fans.
