John Lundstram hands massive contract boost to Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder, has confirmed the club are in the driving seat when it comes to John Lundstram and his contract.

Despite the midfielder’s contract coming to end this summer and no new deal being agreed as yet, Wilder confirmed the club are well on top of things when it comes to Lundstram.

Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Arsenal, Wilder confirmed the club has a one-year extension option they can exercise. That option, Wilder confirmed, is something the club will be taking up.

“There’s an extension in it. And we’ll definitely be taking that up,” Wilder said. (Sheffield Star).

“It’s something we can do, and yes, it’s something we will be exercising. I’ve not had any indication from John that he wants to leave. We want him to stay. It’s the same with the other lads”.

“I should imagine there’ll be more talks in February once the transfer window has closed”.

Lundstram has been a key figure for the Blades this season. He scored twice against Burnley at home, while he also got the winner against Crystal Palace. He’s also provided two assists and had played in every game until a recent injury kept him out of the trip to Man City.

The midfielder signed for United from Oxford a few seasons ago. He barely featured last season as the Blades won promotion but has become integral as Chris Wilder altered the shape of the team over the summer.

Excellent news for the club

He deserves a new deal and his performances this season have been excellent. Not one Sheffield United fan would have called just how good he would become this season.

Lundstram is key for Wilder and Alan Knill. Even with the extra year option exercised, it won’t be a surprise to see the former Everton man tie himself down to a new deal in the coming months.
