John Lundstram looking to earn £40k-a-week away from Sheffield United, Rangers remain keen

John Lundstram is looking increasingly more likely to leave the club this January or in the summer, with The Athletic detailing just what he hopes to earn elsewhere.

Lundstram’s contract saga has been a long-running saga that has, at times, overshadowed things at the club, not least the midfielder’s performances and goals last season.

Chris Wilder has cut a frustrated figure as time has gone by and has gone on record to say that he expects Lundstram to leave, although he said there had been no calls regarding January just yet.

And The Athletic has claimed that Lundstram is looking for a package worth around the £40k-a-week mark elsewhere, with Rangers said to be at the head of the queue to sign him.

Those figures would put him well above the Blades’ top earners. Those top earners are said to earn closer to the 30k mark, according to local media and respected journalists close to the club.

If we can get a fee, we might as well

The whole scenario around Lundstram has been annoying from day one, in all honesty.

His agent has played the perfect game and he’s set for a nice packet himself while Lundstram will probably get a good contract either in the Premier League or elsewhere.

It won’t sit well with Chris Wilder, this. He’ll learn a harsh lesson from it and if there’s an inkling of this happening in the future, I expect the player to be shown the door quickly and without hesitation.

While you can’t blame Lundstram for getting a good deal somewhere else, you’d think there’d be a bit of loyalty to Wilder and the club given he’s become a Premier League midfielder under the Blades boss.

Disappointing this, all in all.
