John Egan was a colossus again at Nottingham Forest this week, as he put his mistake in the home leg firmly behind him at the City Ground.
The Irishman has been outstanding all season for United and by completing the playoff fixtures, ensured he played in every single game for United this term. Egan is one of the Blade’s standout and consistent players, and he’ll be among a cluster of individuals who could attract interest this summer.
And as a flurry of United stars process the loss at Forest, the messages on social media have started to come out from the Blades players. Egan, then, has become the latest to do so as he posted a heartfelt message on Twitter to supporters.
Egan has attracted interest from Premier League clubs before now and after another fine season, that interest could emerge once again this summer.
The 29-year-old has two years to run on his current deal at Bramall Lane. He is well on his way to making 200 appearances for the club, and could face a big decision over the summer months.

Our View: John Egan Has To Stay, He Proved His Worth To Sheffield United
If Sheffield United harbour any hopes of going up again next season, then keeping players like John Egan is going to be essential. Yes, there might be other defenders out there we could bring in. But why bother, when we have arguably the best centre-half in the league?
His mistake against Forest in the opening leg was a cruel blow for a player who is very much a seven or eight out of ten every single week. When he does have a blip, that’s why it’s highlighted so much.

Of course, money talks in football. But United can stand their ground thanks to his contract and ask for a huge fee if someone comes knocking. In the ideal world, though, Egan remains at the club and helps lead United towards a top two fight next term.
