Sheffield United defender John Egan will have a new international manager the next time he goes away with Republic of Ireland.
The FAI have made the move to remove Stephen Kenny from his post as Ireland manager after deciding not to offer him a new contract. It comes on the back of a failure to qualify for Euro 2024 and some pretty dismal performances in doing so.
Of course, while Kenny’s time in charge hasn’t worked out as planned, it did prove fruitful for United skipper Egan.

The defender captained his country on more than one occasion under Kenny and clearly valued his manager’s input and help. As we know, Egan is a big fan of going away with his country, something Paul Heckingbottom has spoken of numerous times.
And over on Instagram, the Blades skipper had a classy but short message for the departing Kenny.

Taking to his personal Instagram account, Egan took the time out to send a short message to Kenny.
Naturally, with Egan currently out injured long-term, he will be awaiting the decision of the FAI as to who takes over from Kenny.
The Blades skipper was a regular fixture in Kenny’s squads and has shown no sign of wanting to slow down when it comes to international football.
There have been suggestions among some Blades fans that Egan follow in Ollie Norwood’s footsteps and take a step back from international football.
But with a new manager now likely to come in and hit the ground running, there’s no doubt Egan will be wanting to be part of a qualification process for the World Cup in 2026.
For now, then, it seems John Egan will very much remain a fixture within the Ireland squad.
