Sheffield United could follow up awarding Enda Stevens a new contract by tying down John Egan to a similar deal.
The Blades confirmed earlier in the day that Stevens had signed a new deal until 2023. It caps a remarkable rise for the left-back after signing for the Blades on a free transfer back in 2017.

But it doesn’t look like United are going to stop with their new deals for their current crop. Speaking to the media before this weekend’s game with Newcastle United, fellow Irishman, John Egan, confirmed he is also in talks over a new deal.
“Talks have started”, Egan admitted. (SUFC Twitter)

“I love this club and I love playing for Sheffield United. It feels great to have a manager that thinks so highly of me”.
Egan’s current contract runs until 2022 so there is no immediate rush to get things sorted. However, Chris Wilder has made it known he wants his top players tying down to the club. Furthermore, Egan has been linked with a move to Everton in something of a nod to the fine performances he’s put in this term.

The Irishman has become an integral part of the Blades squad since arriving from Brentford. He’s helped contribute to ten clean sheets this season as United continue to challenge for Europe.
A sign of the attitude within the current Blades squad
It’s pretty clear that the Sheffield United players are happy with how things are going under Chris Wilder. Just a few weeks ago John Fleck committed to the club and now with Stevens and potentially Egan, things are looking up again for the club.
The team spirit has been a massive part of the success Wilder has enjoyed. Egan, to his credit, has been central to that spirit.
Indeed, Egan’s performance at the end of season dinner last year showed just how popular he is. It will, therefore, be another fine day for the club when John Egan eventually commits his future to Bramall Lane.
