Sheffield United defender, John Egan, has admitted that he felt ‘helpless’ when Kevin De Bruyne played for Man City against him earlier in the season.
The Irishman was undone by a sublime pass from the Belgian as City ran out 1-0 winners at Bramall Lane. In a tight game, it was a moment of quality from a world-class player that separated the two teams.

And speaking to Martin Keown for the Daily Mail, Egan admitted it’s the only time he’s felt helpless all season.
“The player who’s impressed me the most is Kevin De Bruyne. He hit a pass for Sergio Aguero in the only place he could have put it and I’m there thinking: ‘That’s world-class,'” Egan said.

“That’s the only time I’ve felt helpless on a football pitch this season. Genius.”
City, along with Liverpool, are the only teams to complete a double over Sheffield United this season. The pair are first and second in the Premier League, which says a lot about just how well the Blades have been doing.
Nothing to be ashamed about
At the end of the day, if someone like Kevin De Bruyne is the only one to make you feel that way then you must be doing something right.
Egan has been nothing short of superb for the Blades this season. Alongside Jack O’Connell and Chris Basham, he’s helped his team to ten clean sheets in the top-flight.

Losing at home to Man City 1-0, then, is not something Egan will dwell on. The focus for the Irishman will always be on the next game and improving further.
Of course, Egan will learn from that game with City. If anything, it probably teaches you that you can never switch off against the very top players. However, John Egan will just simply keep doing what he’s doing and guiding the Blades towards Europe.
