Earlier in the week we wrote how Sheffield United signing Leeds striker Joe Gelhardt could be an option, and Yorkshire Live have had their say.
After a report from TeamTalk claimed Gelhardt could be allowed to leave Leeds this month, we wrote how the young striker would be the ideal replacement for Reda Khadra.
Of course, this was purely an opinion from our writing team. Gelhardt would be ideal, but as yet, there are no signs of any sort of offer from United for the Leeds ace.
But that hasn’t stopped fans bringing his name up. And answering questions today for Yorkshire Live, journalist Nathan Hemmingham believes Gelhardt is a player Heckingbottom would love, but the finances could be problematic.
Why Everyone Wants To Sign Mykhailo Mudryk
“I am sure Heckingbottom would take him. He has a good relationship with Victor Orta at Leeds, but it all comes down to finances. Also looks to be a few clubs in for him so United would have to be quick if they want him,” Hemmingham wrote.
Gelhardt has dropped down the pecking order at Leeds. An influx of new players, coupled with the good form of Rodrigo, has seen his minutes dip.
Further, Leeds are also signing Georgino Rutter in a move to further knock Gelhardt down the ladder.
Sheff U News View: Gelhardt is one we should keep tabs on
It might have been a speculative opinion piece from us and we made that clear. But in the main, we believe Joe Gelhardt would be a brilliant signing for Sheffield United.
Heckingbottom is said to want someone who can play across the front positions. Gelhardt does that, and he’s already proven he can do at Premier League level as well.
This might be one to just watch for United fans. Sure, money is tight and other clubs are keen. But Gelhardt would surely love it at Bramall Lane, and the club could do far worse than signing the Leeds ace.
