Former Leeds United striker, Jermaine Beckford, has become the latest pundit to have his say on Sheffield United’s form.

The Blades maintained their unbeaten away run at the weekend with a 1-1 draw at Spurs. They could, and probably should, have won the game too. A goal for David McGoldrick harshly ruled out by VAR.

United now sit fifth in the Premier League and there’s even talk among some fans of a push for Europe. However, Beckford has spoken about the Blades’ form and it might not go down too well with some United fans.

I think they’re riding the wave of promotion, which is amazing. I think they’ve done really, really well“, Beckford said on Sky Sports’ ‘The Debate’ last night.

“It’s a long season. So, we’ll see where we end up after the Christmas period and where we go then”.

Not all doom and gloom

Despite Beckford making those comments and initially seeming to dismiss United, he did clarify and praise the Blades in fairness to him.

“It’s refreshing. Nobody in the Premier League really knows how to handle them, how to play against them”, he added.

Beckford went on further too, praising Chris Wilder with a simple statement.

“It’s down to the manager. He knows what he wants. He’s not afraid to do something different. A lot of teams are afraid of what the opposition are going to do…but he’s not!”

Mainstream attention

Despite early season comments from some pundits not favouring the Blades, the message is starting to hit home it seems.

United are being regularly spoken about on a number of shows now, while Sky even went to the lengths to show the impressive stats behind the Blades’ remarkable start.

Those stats, which include being number one in clean sheets kept and least points lost from winning positions, further highlight just how good this team is at the moment.

You can’t help but feel Jermaine Beckford is a bit more impressed with Sheffield United than he perhaps let on.
