Sheffield United came out with a deserved point against West Ham today as a late Oli McBurnie penalty ensured a share of the spoils.
The Blades more than deserved the point as well after a good performance had seen them be the better team for much of the second half.
A golden chance went begging from Ben Brereton-Diaz before James Ward-Prowse netted from the spot to look like giving the Hammers all three points.

However, McBurnie’s spot-kick rescued the game for United and watching on for PL Productions, former West Ham striker Jermain Defoe felt the Blades more than deserved their draw.
“Credit to the Sheffield United players, they didn’t give up – everyone to a man worked as hard as they could. West Ham have got to see that game out – gain control and run the clock down, so it was naive by them. Sheffield United kept going and going and deserved it in the end,” Defoe said.
Sheffield United show enough to give hope
West Ham are a good side and Sheffield United showed enough today to suggest that there is still something in this season.
Yes, it might have been better with a big three points but getting a draw against a top eight side is nothing to be sniffed at.
On another day, Brereton-Diaz takes his chance things could be different.
However, there’s enough in there to suggest the Blades will at least battle throughout the season and if we do go down showing performances like today, most fans won’t be able to grumble too much.
