If Tottenham are serious about signing Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, then they should put up or shut up for the time being.
Ramsdale is said to be a target for Spurs this summer. The Daily Mail has claimed that both the Londoners, and Wolves, are keen on the United number one.
Tottenham are said to be in the hunt for a new goalkeeper. Hugo Lloris is getting on now and the club need to plan for the future. Ramsdale, then, is seen as one of the more enticing options.
The stopper signed for United last summer in a deal worth around £18m at the time. But Ramsdale suffered a second successive relegation, following on from his misery with Bournemouth last term.
But, the Blades number one came out of the campaign with credit. He won a call to the England squad, while also finishing the season excellently.
So, if Tottenham are serious about landing Ramsdale, then they need to pay up…or offer us someone in return. And that someone could be Ryan Sessegnon.
Sessegnon and Jokanovic links easy to make but the winger needs games
It’s easy to suggest Sessegnon. We all know he got his big break under Jokanovic and we all know he was superb for Fulham.
But since moving to Spurs, his career has halted a bit. He moved to Hoffenheim last season after being cast adrift in North London. He did ok in Germany too, making 23 appearances, and having a hand in five goals.
Sessegnon, though, is now at a crucial period in his career. He is 21 now, and for a player who burst onto the scene as he did, he’s not played nearly enough games.
The Blades, meanwhile, will be looking for new blood. They’re also said to be exploring the Premier League loan market, so Sessegnon would suit that particular recruitment strategy.
Further, Jokanovic can help United land him. Of course, we all want to keep Aaron Ramsdale. But every player has a price.
And if that price is a nice sum of cash, plus a season-long loan for Sessegnon, then there won’t be many Blades fans who complain.
