Sheffield United fans were on cloud nine last night as it emerged Man City would be banned from European competition for the next two seasons.
That news means that the fifth-placed Blades, as it stands, currently occupy a Champions League spot with City in second. Obviously, with 12 games to go, there is a long way to go before any talk of Europe can be confirmed.

Furthermore, City are likely to appeal the ban and could well see it overturned. However, it remains amazing for Sheffield United fans to even be involved in conversations about European football.
City’s ban means that the Champions League spots are likely to now drop to fifth. With Pep Guardiola’s men in 2nd, it means a whole host of clubs in the top-flight will now have their eyes on the prize.

A new experience
For Sheffield United fans, however, it’s all a bit too much to take in. After being relegation favourites in August, the club could well be on the verge of something special under Chris Wilder.
Twitter, then, was awash with comments from Blades fans last night as they soaked up the news and made their predictions. Some, of course, were tongue-in-cheek.
However, it’s safe to say the Blades supporters are pretty excited at the prospect of what the next few months could bring.
No joke, I will cry actual tears if we get champions league. #sufc

Talk of Europe, mixed with a potential relegation for Sheffield Wednesday, has got this Blades fan hoping the local hospital can cope!
If Wednesday went down and we got Champions League. I reckon Northern General would be on overload

Just when you think it can't get any better, all in one day a Champions League dream has been sparked for dem blades and a statement has been released saying Wednesday could actually face a heavy points deduction more than likely relegating them to league one 👀👀 #sufc #swfc

Some Blades fans have been quick to take to their editing software, too. This image of Chris Wilder has been quickly doing the rounds on social media.

One fan, meanwhile, is already planning his trip it seems. He’s looking at hotels in some of the biggest cities in Europe!
