Billy Sharp has learnt to the live with the names that get thrown away due to his experience in the game and Blades squad.
Terms like ‘wiley old fox’ often do the rounds when it comes to Sharp and the United striker has simply taken it in his stride. Indeed, he continued to show his worth with a goal and an assist this weekend against Plymouth.
The near 35-year-old is still a key member of Chris Wilder’s squad. As the commentators said on Saturday, the Blades boss ‘knows what he is getting’ from the experienced Sharp.
And with his goal and assist at the weekend, the United skipper can put himself into the FA Cup record books thanks to an intriguing stat that puts him alongside Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs.
Per Opta stats on Twitter, Sharp became the oldest player since Giggs all the way back in 2013 to register both an assist and a goal in the same FA Cup tie.
Sharp will take that, no doubt. Giggs, an obvious legend of the game both in England and worldwide, scored his fair share of FA Cup goals over the years.
It just goes to show, then, that no matter your age, if you keep yourself in fine nick, you can contribute to the cause and still get yourself in and among the stats.
Well done Billy, more of the same in the Premier League next please!
