How Ben Osborn warned Jack Robinson before he signed for Sheffield United

Ben Osborn has admitted he had a frank warning for his former teammate, Jack Robinson before the left-back arrived from Nottingham Forest in January.

Robinson arrived at Bramall Lane during the winter window. His arrival was not the most glamorous of signings. Indeed, he arrived in a month that saw the likes of Sander Berge, Panos Retsos, and Richairo Zivkovic all arrive in Sheffield.

Osborn, meanwhile, has only played a bit-part role this season. But after coming on against Brighton and impressing, he will be hoping to get the nod when United travel to Reading tonight.

Robinson is another who might be hoping for a call to the first XI. And Osborn admits he had a stark warning for his former Forest teammate.

“I told him before to get ready because training is tough and it’s intense“, Osborn said. (BBC Radio Sheffield)

“He said to me the other day that I wasn’t kidding and that he was going home not being able to move! But he’s covering for Jack O’Connell at the moment and he’ll be more than capable of stepping in if he’s needed”.

Osborn has slotted in when needed in a number of positions for Chris Wilder this season. However, it’s clear to see that Wilder fancies Osborn as direct cover for the excellent Enda Stevens at wing-back.

Keen to make an impression

Crucially, though, he has done the job asked of him when needed. He seems to have accepted that he needs to play very well to get into the team. It is something he touched on the interview, where he admitted he perhaps underestimated the quality already at Bramall Lane.

Hopefully, Osborn can get another game tonight. If he continues to impress, it should be the club’s overall benefit and drive Enda Stevens to improve even further.
