Sheffield United defender Jayden Bogle is getting closer to a comeback from injury, although he’ll be out for a while longer yet.

Bogle has been out of action for months after a serious injury ended his season last term when he was flying. Having made the right wing-back slot his own, Bogle was struck down with a knee injury that required surgery in the end.

Given the nature of the injury to Bogle, a quick recovery was never really going to be an option. But speaking to Yorkshire Live, United boss Paul Heckingbottom is positive about the outlook for the former Derby man.

“Everyone’s pleased with him. There will be no rush, just because of how tough the injury can be,” Heckingbottom said.

“He’s turned the corner in terms of reacting to things and everyone’s pleased with him. He’s got back up there with his strength, so we’ll start progressing things a little bit more.”

Bogle will fight it out with George Baldock when he does make a return to the fold. For now, Baldock looks to have a free-run at the wing-back spot, although Paul Heckingbottom is keen to try and look more closely at Sean Robertson, who played in the friendly at Burton.

Our View: Jayden Bogle Crucial To Sheffield United Promotion Hopes

It was a real shame to see Bogle go down last year like he did. He was arguably United’s best player at the time he got injured and we missed his thrusting bursts down the right into the attacking third.

But, it’s important he gets right and doesn’t risk aggravating things by coming back too soon. We’ve all seen what happened with Jack O’Connell, so treating this injury with care is key for United and Bogle.

If he does return in and around October, it will be like a new signing. And if Bogle can get up to speed and play like he was doing before the injury, then he’ll be key for United’s promotion chances.
